Krieg DeVault is pleased to announce that the firm has strengthened its highly respected Governmental Affairs Practice by acquiring the former Director of Government Relations for the Indiana State Medical Association, Grant M. Achenbach.

Mr. Achenbach joins Krieg DeVault as an Associate and will represent the firm’s clients before the Indiana General Assembly and state administrative agencies, advising clients on legislative and executive branch lobbying strategy, policy development, and coalition building.  His health care lobbying experience will be a great asset to the firm, representing clients in matters involving medical malpractice liability, telehealth, employment contracting, health insurance matters, scope of practice and licensure, and health care price transparency requirements.

“We are very excited to welcome Grant as the newest member of the firm’s Governmental Affairs Practice,” said Amy Levander, Executive Director of Governmental Affairs and Chair of the firm’s Governmental Affairs Practice. “Grant’s leadership at the Indiana State Medical Association and his strategic lobbying experience will be a great fit for our firm’s client base.”

Prior to joining Krieg DeVault, Achenbach served as the Director of Government Relations for the Indiana State Medical Association (ISMA). While at the ISMA, he represented the interests of Indiana’s physicians and physician groups and was responsible for developing and implementing the ISMA’s yearly legislative agenda. Mr. Achenbach also advocated for ISMA’s physician members before the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency, the Indiana Department of Insurance, the Family and Social Services Administration, the Indiana Department of Health, and other state agencies. He began his career as a legislative assistant for the Indiana House of Representatives, where he staffed the House Public Health Committee and analyzed Public Health Committee bills and testimony.

Achenbach is a graduate of the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law and holds membership in the Governmental Affairs Society of Indiana, American Society of State Medical Association Counsel, and Indianapolis Bar Association.  He is also active in his community, serving as Trustee of the Omega Christian Church.
