Lori Jean

Partner

Lori Jean is a member of the firm’s Commercial and Real Estate Lending Group. She devotes her practice to counseling clients regarding corporate, transactional, financial services, and cannabis law and compliance matters.

Ms. Jean has an extensive background spanning more than 26 years in the corporate and legal industries. Prior to joining Krieg DeVault, she served as Senior Vice President, Assistant General Counsel, and Chief Compliance Officer for 1st Source Bank. While there, Ms. Jean provided support in commercial and consumer lending, specialty finance, workout/collections, deposit operations, insurance agency, and trust and investment matters. She was also responsible for drafting, implementing, and overseeing corporate regulatory compliance policies, programs, and risk assessments in her role as Chief Compliance Officer. Previous to 1st Source Bank, Ms. Jean served as Assistant General Counsel for Coachmen Industries, Inc., Senior Managing Counsel for Tellabs Operations, Inc., and Partner at the law firm of Baker & McKenzie.

Representative Experience

  • Counseled CBD retailer regarding hemp, including legality under federal and state law and Indiana’s product labeling requirements
  • Counseled financial institutions in deposit and loan operational and regulatory compliance matters
  • Counseled corporate fiduciary regarding permissibility of disbursing trust funds for the purchase of medical marijuana
  • Represented financial institutions in commercial and industrial, and real estate lending transactions, including the structuring of a credit facility to a cannabis-related business
  • Managed collection litigation against local municipality resulting in full recovery of outstanding debtNegotiated various third-party software, service, and core-provider agreements and advised on vendor management compliance for financial institution clients
  • Negotiated and closed a multi-party real estate sale/municipal finance transaction with the City of South Bend and renegotiated a 10-year lease of corporate headquarters at savings of over $1 million
  • Represented clients in the development, sale, acquisition and financing of student housing developments
  • Represented financial institutions in insurance agency and branch divestitures as well as in the acquisition of a credit union
  • Managed prosecution of non-solicitation and trade secrets suit against competitor and former employee resulting in permanent injunction and award of damages and attorney’s fees
