Krieg DeVault is pleased to announce that attorney Tom Stafford has been named Partner. Mr. Stafford, hired by Krieg DeVault as an Associate in 2011, is a member of the firm’s Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation and Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOP) practice groups.
Mr. Stafford focuses his practice on employee stock ownership plans and spends significant time working with companies, trustees, lenders and sellers on ESOP-related matters, including design and implementation, ongoing fiduciary and governance counseling, and sales of ESOP companies. He further advises clients on a wide spectrum of employee benefits-related matters, including but not limited to, drafting and designing qualified retirement plans; counseling on tax and benefit issues in mergers and acquisitions; interacting with the IRS and DOL on correction of operational and plan document failures; responding to IRS or DOL plan audits; or requesting IRS or DOL guidance through private letter rulings, advisory opinions or prohibited transaction exemptions.
Mr. Stafford is an active member of the ESOP community, currently serving on the Legislative & Regulatory Advisory Committee of The ESOP Association; and is a member of the Ohio Employee Ownership Council and National Center for Employee Ownership. He received his B.A. from Wabash College and J.D. from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law, and was recently named as a Rising Star by Indiana Super Lawyers.
