Thomas N. Hutchinson

Tom Hutchinson is a member of the firm's Health Care and Business Practice Groups. He concentrates his practice on the business aspects of health law.  He regularly advises hospitals and physicians throughout the country on acquisition strategies.  Tom also regularly works with a variety of health care joint ventures, including surgery centers, cancer centers, and imaging centers.  His experience includes structuring transactions to comply with the Anti-Kickback and Stark laws and other regulations unique to the health care industry.  Tom also works with many other types of companies that are in the business of health care, including medical suppliers, retirement community developers, testing facilities, and many more.  He is past Chair of the Health Law Sections of both the Indiana State Bar Association and the Indianapolis Bar Association.

Representative Experience

• Represented numerous physician practices in sales to hospital systems
• Assisted hospital in acquisition of multiple physician practices and related ancillary facilities
• Assisted in conversion of hospital wing to freestanding licensed orthopaedic hospital and syndicated it to physicians
• Represented surgery center in acquisition of additional licensed location
• Assisted Continuing Care Retirement Community in establishing new university-affiliated campus
• Restructured "under arrangements" relationship between hospitals and surgery center, sleep lab, endoscopy center, and other physician-owned joint ventures
• Represented sale of physician-owned imaging center to hospital
• Negotiated exclusive on-call and medical director agreement with multi-campus hospital system
• Structured co-managed service line arrangement between physicians and hospital
