Scott Paynter is a patent attorney and a member of the firm's Intellectual Property and Technology Law Practice Group. Prior to entering the legal field, Mr. Paynter obtained seven years of technical experience as an electrical engineer specializing in computers at the Naval Air Warfare Center, a Navy research and design facility located in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Areas of Technical Expertise
Computers, software, control systems, electronics, signal processing, wireless communications, antenna design, semiconductor manufacturing, internal combustion engines and controls/governors/regulators for the same, exhaust emissions control techniques, electric power generation and monitoring, nuclear power, subatomic particle generation and related applications, fuel cells and alternative/exotic energy generation/storage techniques, imaging techniques, sensors and detectors, spectroscopy, optics, laser-based systems, medical devices, and nozzles/mixers for aircraft power systems.

Representative Experience

  • Advise several clients over a broad range of intellectual property matters, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and other intellectual property rights
  • Prepared, filed, and prosecuted U.S. patent applications for over fourteen years and provided coordination/oversight of corresponding international/foreign patent filing and prosecution
  • Serve as temporary in-house chief IP counsel for a fortune 200 company from time-to-time
  • Responsible for large patent portfolios for several companies in the multibillion dollar revenue range
