John R. Kirkwood of Krieg DeVault named as one of the 100 most influential people in Bioenergy for 2011-2012

Indianapolis, IN – The law firm of Krieg DeVault is pleased to announce that Partner and Alternative Energy and Clean Tech Practice Chair John R. Kirkwood has been named as one of the 100 most influential people in bioenergy by Biofuels Digest.

The team of John Kirkwood, along with client John May of Stern Brothers & Co., and Mark Reidy of Mintz Levin ranked 63rd on Biofuels Digest’s list as the team that created a new capital markets driven financing product for the USDA’s 9003 Biorefinery Assistance Guaranteed Loans Program and secured over $400 million of loan guarantees for national biofuels expansion in 2011.

Additional Information Regarding the Biorefinery Assistance Guaranteed Loan Program
Stern Brothers & Co. and its counsel, Indianapolis, Indiana law firm Krieg DeVault assisted Costaka, Inc., Enerkem Corporation, and INEOS New Planet BioEnergy in securing conditional commitments from the USDA for loan guarantees in connection with the financing of their advanced biofuels projects.

In 2011, Costaka, Inc. received a conditional commitment to guarantee $250 million to construct and operate a cellulosic ethanol biorefinery facility using woody biomass to produce ethanol that will be capable of producing 53 million gallons per year of advanced biofuels. Enerkem received a conditional commitment to guarantee $80 million to build and operate a biorefinery that will be capable of producing 10 million gallons per year of advanced biofuels by refining dried and post-sorted municipal waste. INEOS New Planet BioEnergy, LLC received a conditional commitment to guarantee $75 million to construct and operate a biorefinery capable of producing 8 million gallons per year of cellulosic ethanol and gross electricity production of 6 MW.
