Summer Associate Program

Best Places to Work Logo 2008Our summer associate program is an integral component of the recruiting process at Krieg DeVault, as it is the primary vehicle through which we hire our first-year associate attorneys. Because of its importance, the firm devotes significant time and resources to our summer associate program. We provide our summer associates with substantial personal attention, training and guidance, as well as access and exposure to as many of our attorneys and practice groups as possible.

The summer associate program is designed to provide summer associates with a realistic view of what life is like as a full-time associate attorney at Krieg DeVault. Each summer associate is provided with an office, a computer and an administrative assistant. Our summer associates receive meaningful projects for actual clients of the firm. These projects include drafting documents, preparing memoranda of law, researching important issues and attending client meetings, closings, depositions, hearings and trials. Since there is no formal rotation schedule, summer associates receive project assignments directly from attorneys practicing in most of Krieg DeVault's practice groups. In addition to regular feedback from individual attorneys as projects are completed, summer associates receive an informal mid-summer evaluation and a formal evaluation at the end of the summer program.

The summer program lasts approximately 10-12 weeks, beginning in mid-May and ending in early August. The summer program receives general oversight from the firm Recruiting Committee and is administered on a day-to-day basis by our Summer Associate Coordinators. Each summer associate also is assigned a mentor who is an associate attorney at the firm.

We host a number of social activities throughout the summer. These activities have included our summer kick-off party, an Indianapolis Indians baseball game, an outdoor evening movie at the Indianapolis Art Museum, go-kart racing, a progressive dinner, duck pin bowling, gatherings at attorneys' homes and other events.

Krieg DeVault is committed to our clients, our attorneys and staff and our community.  We are dedicated to maintaining the firm's long-standing tradition of providing the highest quality legal services to each of our clients in a friendly, supportive work environment where attorneys receive significant training and have the ability to develop and grow professionally.
